Get To Know Us!

Hello there! Here at The Chickoo Tree, we show you how to embrace veganism without compromising on your culture.

Here’s some quick information about us and this blog! Let us know in the comments what else you’d like to know.

Who runs the blog ?

Uha and Neha run this blog. The two of us are sisters. 🙂

Uha Tadimeti

Where do you live ?

Neha lives in LA, Uha in Vancouver, Canada.

Where did y’all grow up ?

We grew up in Andhra Pradesh and we call Hyderabad our home now. We speak fluent Telugu, Hindi & English. Neha can speak broken Malayalam, Uha speaks broken Tamil. We lived in various states and picked up these languages from there.

What is the blog about ?

This blog is here to help you make the foods you grew up eating and explore other cuisines all without compromising on taste and experience. All our recipes are 100% vegan and 100% AMAZING and made without any animal products!

What kind of recipes can I find here ?

You can find Veganized authentic Indian recipes, quick nutritious meals to get you through busy days, a lot of desserts and more!

What made you go Vegan ?

We were vegetarians our whole lives for ethical reasons. When we learnt how dairy consumption was directly related to animal exploitation, we knew going vegan was an obvious extension to our lifestyle.

What do you do besides blogging ?

Neha is a Software Engineer (nerd alert), Uha is an Animator (how cool!) and a vegan baker in the making!

Why did you start this blog ?

As kids, we spent many summers together in our amamma & tatayya’s house (grand parents’ house). As we grew older, we became busy with life and felt disconnected. This blog is where we have another chance at connecting through our shared passion for food and veganism!

A few words

In 2019, when we were transitioning into Veganism, we were concerned about losing a part of our identity. We thought we’d have to survive on smoothie bowls and kale salads (we’re not hating on them, we love a good salad) !

We didn’t know if we would ever get to enjoy chai or our favorite sweets again. What felt overwhelming at the beginning, became a lot of fun eventually. We found joy in recreating vegan versions of our favorite recipes and sharing them with people around us. We loved discovering new vegan products / restaurants around us and reviewing/rating them.

Even though mainstream Veganism makes it seem like a western concept, it really isn’t. Veganism is just a way of life and has space for every culture to make it their own.

Our mission is to help you celebrate your culture all while leaving our animal friends out of the equation. Are you ready for this adventure ?
